Basically, these are the steps to take the ferry from Singapore to Desaru:
- Get to the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal (by train or bus) with at least 15 minutes to spare before the ferry departure
- Take the ferry service to Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal close to Desaru (~90 minutes, ~SGD $70 one-way)

3.1 How To Take A Ferry From Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal To Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal
Ferry operator, Batam Fast Ferry Pte Ltd runs services between Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, Singapore and Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal, Johor.
Their passenger ferry has a total capacity of ~330 passengers.

Step 1: Check Ferry Schedule & Purchase Ferry Ticket Online
See the latest schedule of the ferry by Batam Fast Ferry Pte Ltd before you make any decision to purchase ferry tickets.
Once you have done that, you can buy tickets for the ferry online on the Batam Fast Ferry Pte Ltd site.
It is advisable to book the ferry ticket at least 2 weeks in advance as they tend to sell out during long weekends, public holidays and school holidays!

Step 2: Check-in At Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal (Batam Fast Counter)
On the day of your ferry departure, you have to check-in at the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal ticket counter to get your boarding pass.
The counter is only open an hour before the departure time and it closes in the last 15 minutes before the stated departure time.
Step 3: Immigration Clearance in Singapore (Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal)
After getting your boarding pass, go through the security checkpoint to have your bags scanned.
Continue walking to the immigration counter to complete the immigration clearance for Singapore.
If there is no cause for concern, it should take only 5 minutes to complete the clearance.
Then you can proceed to the departure lounge to wait for boarding time.

Step 4: Ferry from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal to Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal
Staff will come to lead the way when it’s time (~15 minutes before departure) to board the ferry.
Inside the ferry, there are spacious seats, luggage storage, a toilet, entertainment and most importantly, enough life jackets for both adults and children!
The ride to the other side takes about 90 minutes.
Step 5: Immigration Clearance In Malaysia (Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal)
